Race For Life

Kelly English an EnergyLink Ltd. employee has recently completed the Race for Life to raise funds for Cancer Research and was part sponsored by EnergyLink Ltd.

The Race for Life is Cancer Research UK's flagship event, with over 230 events taking place across the UK. Some of the women who take part in Race for Life are cancer survivors, while others walk, jog or run to celebrate or remember the lives of family, friends or loved ones.

After the race Kelly said: “Along with 4 friends I ran the 5k run at Herrington Country Park, near Sunderland against a backdrop of Penshaw Monument. It was a beautiful hot sunny Sunday morning where over 4000 runners took part in the annual event to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Many of the runners were dressed up in bright pink or fancy dress and were running to mark the lives of friends and family touched by cancer. Others were there simply to do something positive to raise money for a great cause.

This was the first time I had taken part in the Race for Life and was filled with excitement and apprehension but the atmosphere among the women taking part and the support from my family and friends spurred me on.

The sense of motivation from the warm-up routine, to the lining up at the start, right through to the fantastic sense of achievement from crossing the finish line was very rewarding. You were side-by-side with thousands of other women all there for the same cause. There were some very inspirational and emotional 'back-signs' worn by many of the runners which motivated you even more.

I would like to thank EnergyLink Ltd., my family, friends and colleagues for their amazing support and sponsorship as all money raised helps to fund the work of over 4,800 scientists, doctors and nurses across the UK, who are dedicated to helping more people beat cancer.

So far, an incredible 4.7 million women have raised over £370 million to fund Cancer Research UK and myself and my friends have already registered for next years event to continue supporting this amazing life-saving work.”
